Giza is home to the Great Pyramids, one of the most fascinating and majestic wonders of the ancient world. Being 4,500 years old, and reaching almost 450 feet (145m) above the ground, the Great Pyramids stand high and proud in the middle of the sand of the Sahara desert. The Great Pyramid inspires awe in anyone lucky enough to witness the genius of ancient Egyptian ingenuity and their mastery of engineering and architecture.
On the basis of revitalizing tourism which is in line with the state’s goal for putting Egypt on the map as one of the top destinations for travel, this competition, under The Design Show, aims to create a boutique hotel that leverages on the beauty and magnificence of the Giza Plateau. It was inspired by the idea of making the most of such a valuable location and proximity to the new Egyptian museum to create dream-like accommodation that heavily caters to tourism and conservation of architectural heritage.
With a total of 75 rooms, the aim of the 4-stars cliff boutique hotel will be to connect people, nature, history and architecture. The land area is 6700 meter squared on top of a cliff with park & lake view down the cliff and another park as a secondary view behind the hotel. The surrounding will provide guests with an essence of natural tranquility and flexibility. A spacious and bright design with an open landscape pattern and a classical garden view overlooking the pyramids should provide a picturesque spectacle for any visitor. The construction should preserve the spirit of the authentic ancient Egyptian architecture, skillfully combined with the classical modernism of the building. The constructed building should also provide spaces suitable to the current needs and future intentions of the cliff boutique.
The participants are invited to integrate the 3 main views (Lake, Park and the Pyramids) within the design and should consider the privacy of all residential units with a functional architectural concept as well as a concept for the interior design, together with an estimated value of the project proposal. One of the main challenges is to design within the 12 meters height (from street level). This would eventually lead in integrating the design with topography.
Evaluation criteria will be based on:
